Colleen Hoover expressed gratitude for the adaptation of her novel «It Ends With Us» into a film, despite the scandals surrounding it. In an interview with Variety published on September 23, the author noted that she is proud of the film and its cast, including Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.
The film was released in August 2024 with a budget of $ 25 million and grossed $ 350 million worldwide. However, four months after its premiere, Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni and his production company Wayfarer Studios, accusing him of sexual harassment on set and orchestrating a defamatory campaign against her. Baldoni denied the allegations and filed a countersuit for defamation, which was later dismissed.
After more than a year of legal battles, Lively and Baldoni reached a settlement in May, before the trial began. Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios were required to pay Lively just over $ 400,000 to cover legal expenses, although she initially sought $ 8 million.
Despite the legal issues, Hoover prefers to focus on the positive aspects. She is also preparing for the release of the adaptation of her other novel «Verity», - which stars Dakota Johnson, Anne Hathaway, and Josh Hartnett. The film is set to premiere on October 2. Hoover expressed hope for a possible adaptation of the sequel «It Starts With Us», - noting that she does not own the rights to its adaptation but will support it if the opportunity arises.
