Another TV show is going into the past. CBS has confirmed that their long-running detective series «Blue Bloods» is ending after 14 seasons on the air. To find out more about the final episodes and the cancellation of the show, keep reading.

Like several other canceled TV shows (iCarly, Young Sheldon, and others), CBS did not provide a reason for canceling «Blue Bloods». However, many fans speculate that one of the reasons could have been the impact of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The strikes forced studios to halt production, but as CBS executives stated, «Blue Bloods» still had a strong audience.

«Blue Bloods will forever remain a beloved part of CBS’s legacy», - wrote network executives Amy Reisenbach and David Stapf in a joint statement. «It ruled Friday nights with unparalleled dominance since its debut and established itself as a cornerstone of our winning lineup with exceptionally devoted fans».

The star of the series, Tom Selleck, also confirmed the show’s cancellation in a statement to Variety: «For the past 13 years, it has been an honor and privilege to work on a show that not only celebrates the men and women protecting and serving in New York but also shows the importance of family. Working alongside these incredible actors, writers, producers, directors, and crew has been a dream, and I am grateful to have been part of this amazing group for over 275 episodes. Thank you to CBS Studios and the CBS network for their unwavering support, and we express sincere gratitude to the fans who gathered with us for dinner every Friday night».

Earlier reports indicated that the actors of the series «Blue Bloods» agreed to a 25% pay cut to keep the show on the air. Most of them agreed to a salary reduction to extend the series to a 14th season. At the time, Deadline reported that CBS insisted on «significant budget cuts».

Before the show was renewed for its final season, star Donnie Wahlberg spoke with PEOPLE about how he believed the audience would react if «Blue Bloods» did not get renewed for a new season.

«I love 'Blue Bloods,' and I think if there wasn’t a 14th season, the loyal fans of the show would be very, very upset», - he noted. «They are part of the Reagan family. The viewers are the extended family. … If the show disappeared without them having a proper goodbye, I think they would be devastated. So, I assume we will have at least one more season».

Viewers will see a two-part season with a total of 18 episodes. The first 10 episodes will air on February 16, 2024, and the remaining episodes will be shown in the fall of 2024.

Cable TV users can watch the show on CBS, while others can stream the series on Paramount+
