Connor Zilish caused concern among NASCAR fans on August 9, 2025, when he fell heavily while celebrating another victory. The Trackhouse Racing driver was taken to the hospital, and spectators could not immediately understand where he was injured and how he was hurt.
Below you will find an update on Connor’s injury and recovery, and learn what happened to him.
Connor is only 19 years old, and he already has a successful racing career. Hailing from Charlotte, North Carolina, he started karting at the age of just 5. He raced karts for the next decade before transitioning to sports and stock cars.
On August 9, he celebrated a victory at Watkins Glen International in New York. He climbed onto the roof of his Chevrolet No. 88, and slipped, seemingly catching his left foot on the driver’s side window. Connor then fell to the ground.
Shortly after, he was lifted onto a stretcher and taken to a medical center, and then to the hospital.
Chief mechanic Mardy Lindley praised Connor in an interview after the race on SiriusXM NASCAR radio and wished him a speedy recovery.
«He did a great job working his way through the field and coming out on top», - Lindley said. «I'm praying for Connor to be okay. I think he’ll be okay».
It was later revealed that Connor had injured his collarbone. He explained in a tweet on August 9 that he had broken it, but was feeling okay.
«Thank you all for your attention today. I have already been discharged from the hospital and feel better», - Connor wrote that evening. «Fortunately, the CT scans of my head are clear, I just have a broken collarbone. Grateful to all the medics for their quick help and glad that everything turned out okay».
Connor continued his statement in a separate Instagram post, thanking everyone for their support and noting that his head CT scans are «clear» of other serious injuries.
«First of all, thank you to everyone who reached out today, and thank you to the medics for taking care of me all evening», - Connor wrote in an Instagram post that night. «I flipped when I got out of the car at the finish line. Fortunately, the CT scans of my head are clear, and my only injury is a broken collarbone. Proud of our team @jrmotorsports for our 6th win this year, sorry I couldn’t celebrate with them!»
