King Charles III subtly refuted rumors about funeral arrangements. Hours after reports of the king’s health condition surfaced, the 75-year-old monarch announced his return to public duties while battling cancer.
«His Majesty the King will soon return to public duties after a period of treatment and recovery following a recent cancer diagnosis», - read a statement on Charles' Instagram account on Friday, April 26. «To mark this important event, the King and Queen will make a joint visit to a cancer treatment center next Tuesday, where they will meet with medical specialists and patients».
The statement noted that the upcoming visit to cancer patients «will be the first of a series of external duties that His Majesty will fulfill in the coming weeks».
«In addition, the King and Queen will host Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan during a State Visit in June at the request of the British Government», - added the royal representative in the statement. «As the first anniversary of the Coronation approaches, Their Majesties remain deeply grateful for the numerous kind wishes and support they have received from around the world during the joys and trials of the past year».
The king’s update was published just hours after the Daily Beast reported that Charles' health condition was «not very good» and that the palace was making changes to his funeral arrangements.
«Speaking with the king’s friends in recent weeks about his health, the most common response is 'It's not very good,'» the message read, before adding that Charles «is determined to beat [cancer], and they are making every effort to do so».
The report also stated: «Everyone remains optimistic, but he is really very unwell. More than they are letting on».
Last month, a false report from the Russian state news agency TASS claimed that Charles had «unexpectedly» died. Buckingham Palace immediately responded on March 18, stating: «We are pleased to confirm that the King continues his official and private activities».
In January, Charles underwent a procedure for an enlarged prostate. He was then diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer, which Buckingham Palace announced in a statement in February.
«During a recent hospital procedure for the benign enlargement of the prostate, a separate problematic condition was discovered. Subsequent diagnostic tests revealed a form of cancer», - read the palace’s public statement at the time. «His Majesty began regular treatment today, during which doctors advised him to postpone public duties. Throughout this period, the King will continue to carry out state affairs and official documentation as usual»
