Chris Brown has been sentenced to eight months in prison, with a 12-month suspended sentence, for assaulting music producer Abraham Diava at a club in London. This was reported by People magazine. Brown and his co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu pleaded guilty to the charge of affray in July 2023.
According to information provided by the UK government website, a suspended sentence means that the punishment will be served in the community rather than in prison, with certain conditions potentially imposed, such as a ban on visiting specific places or performing community service. If the conditions are violated, Brown could be sent to prison.
The sentence confirms that Brown will be able to return to his joint tour with Usher, which will resume in Atlanta on November 5.
The assault occurred on February 19, 2023, when police received a report that a man in his 40s had been attacked at a nightclub on Hanover Square. According to police, Brown struck the victim multiple times with a glass bottle, while Akinlolu attacked him from behind. The victim was hospitalized with a head injury and minor knee damage.
Detective Christina Jessah from the Metropolitan Police stated that this was an unacceptable assault that put the man in the hospital, and that violence will not be tolerated on the streets of London.
