Kristo Pike discharged from hospital after botched execution
Krista Pike was discharged from the hospital following unsuccessful execution attempts. According to her legal team, she is grateful to the medical staff and rescuers for their assistance in these unusual circumstances. Pike is currently continuing to receive medical care in prison, and her condition will be monitored.

As Pike’s attorneys report, she has returned to the Debra K. Johnson Rehabilitation Center in Nashville, Tennessee, after being released from the hospital. She is moving with assistance but is experiencing difficulties with concentration and memory.

Krista Pike was sentenced to death in 1996 for the murder of her former classmate, Colleen Slemmer, in 1995. Pike was only 18 years old when she committed the crime alongside her then-boyfriend, Tadaril Shipp, who was sentenced to life in prison since he was a minor at the time of the murder.

On September 30, Pike was taken to the Riverbend maximum-security facility for execution by injection. Two injections of pentobarbital failed to kill her; witnesses reported that she made sounds resembling snoring and complained of pain. One witness, reporter Tory Hessner, stated that Pike said, «My hand feels like it’s about to explode».

On October 8, Pike’s attorney, Stephen Ferrell, reported that she is still in a state of «foggy consciousness» following the failed injections. He noted that Pike’s physical condition is improving, but she is struggling with memory and concentration.

Following this incident, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee ordered an investigation and canceled the remaining executions scheduled for this year. He also announced the upcoming resignation of Frank Strada, the Commissioner of the Department of Corrections.
