Although Katy Perry has recently completed her seventh and final season as a judge on American Idol, her former colleague Luke Bryan has already hinted at who could be her next replacement.
Despite the 39-year-old singer’s statement on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where she shared: «This fall, in September, I’m going to perform at a huge music festival in Brazil called Rockin' Rio. It’s really exciting — it’s a big event. It’s important for people from all over the world, especially for my Brazilian fans. I think this will probably be my last season on Idol. I love this show so much. It has connected me with the heart of America. But I feel like I need to step out and feel that pulse at my own rhythm…»
Her 47-year-old colleague told Billboard in an interview about some artists they are considering. «I mentioned a few names. I think they are considering Pink, Miley Cyrus, Meghan Trainor», - Luke said.
«I think they are working hard to find someone who can really replace Katy», - he added.
The competition series, consisting of 21 seasons, was created to showcase talents that later became famous artists, such as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks, Jennifer Hudson, Phillip Phillips, Adam Lambert, and others.
While many may wonder why not bring back a former winner, for example, the winner of the first season Kelly, she has already admitted that she cannot do it. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight about the possibility of returning, she expressed: «I wanted a life for us. And we enjoy the park and each other every day… As a parent — people will understand this — you only have so much time until they don’t want to spend time with you… That’s why [she can’t return to Idol]. These are my kids».
Since the team has not yet confirmed a new judge, they are still working on who will return to the show. «Disney is keeping it a secret from me, Lionel Richie, and Ryan Seacrest. We haven’t heard yet who will return, and if Lionel and I will return. I think Disney is just trying to figure out what they want to do, and we’re just sitting and waiting for them to make a decision», - Luke Bryan told Billboard
