Quinta Brunson talks about a character inspired by her mother
Quinta Brunson, the creator of one of the most popular comedy series on television, «Abbott Elementary», - revealed that the show’s main character, Barbara, was inspired by her mother, Norma Jean Brunson, and her favorite teacher, Miss Abbott.

In an interview with «Extra», - Quinta noted that «the focus for me was on Barbara, and Barbara was based on my mother». The character of Barbara Howard is played by Sheryl Lee Ralph. Quinta also discussed her role in the series, explaining that «Janine became the eyes through which we wanted the audience to see Abbott», - adding that it is a big responsibility, as she does not consider herself as optimistic as her character.

«Abbott Elementary» has already won four Emmy Awards and is currently in its sixth season. Brunson emphasized that this is «incredible recognition of all the hard work», - and expressed her gratitude for it.

Before achieving success with «Abbott Elementary», - Quinta was a struggling artist in Los Angeles and a video producer for BuzzFeed. She also appeared in six episodes of the show «A Black Lady Sketch Show». In a recent interview with Clayton Davis from Variety, Quinta’s path to fame was discussed, which he noted was not traditional for Hollywood, making her more relatable to viewers.
