Quarterback of the Oregon Ducks, Dante Moore, was hospitalized after a hard hit during the game against Southern California on September 26. The game was paused for several minutes when Moore’s head struck the ground following a collision with USC linebacker Desmond Stevens II. Moore was taken off the field and transported to a Los Angeles hospital by ambulance.
Oregon head coach Dan Lanning described the incident as «disgusting» and noted that the atmosphere on the team’s sideline changed after the hit, causing strong emotions among the players, including himself. Later, a team representative reported that Moore has movement in his limbs and is undergoing further evaluation.
Lanning added that Moore is in the recovery process but refrained from making premature statements about his condition. Stevens was ejected from the field after the incident but returned to the USC sideline for the remainder of the game. USC head coach Lincoln Riley explained this by stating that Stevens is part of the team.
When Lanning was asked about reports that some USC players allegedly celebrated the hit, he stated that he did not see anything like that and expressed disappointment if it indeed occurred. Moore was replaced on the field by backup quarterback Dylan Raiola, who noted that the team must continue to fight despite the injuries. Ultimately, Oregon won the game with a score of 41−27.
