Lana Del Rey and Quavo teamed up for their new single «Tough», - which was released on Wednesday, July 3rd. In the new music video, the 33-year-old rapper and the 39-year-old singer both show public displays of affection towards each other. The video came out about two months after rumors of a romance between them began when they were spotted together in May.
The video features many pastoral and country-inspired scenes, where they sit in fields, along country roads. There are also several cottages where they sit on the porch and rock on rocking chairs. At the beginning of the video, they embrace, and in another scene, they walk away, with Quavo hugging Lana. At other moments, Lana makes a few hints towards the rapper, and in another moment, she sits on his lap on a rocking chair, playing the guitar. By the end of the video, Lana looks at the rapper from the passenger seat of his truck.
The track includes indie-pop sounds similar to what Lana’s fans are used to hearing, as well as elements of country and a bit of southern rap from Quavo. «Tough» is also a bit of a love song, with the rapper singing: «Crawling through the mud, I couldn’t find love, and then we showed up/Look at who we became, baby» in the chorus. Although the song features a lot of American symbolism, it is unclear whether it will be included in Lana’s upcoming country album titled «Lasso».
