However, Tommy is kidnapped by local cartel leader Jimenez, who had been threatening M-Tex drilling sites throughout the first season. But Tommy’s fate changes when cartel boss Galino (Andy) kills his own people and declares that he wants Tommy to become his partner, not remain his rival.
Monty’s death was planned from the beginning of «Landman». During a previous interview with TV Insider, co-creator Christian Wallace said they had hinted at Monty’s deteriorating condition throughout the first season.
«Yes, you sprinkle those little pieces throughout the season», - he noted. «There's Monty checking his pulse on his watch, or his wife Cami telling him he can’t drink coffee anymore, and just little things that were scattered throughout the time to indicate that something is happening, so when it finally happens, it’s not completely unexpected».
Christian continued: «But you also don’t want to be too heavy-handed and blatantly telegraph it to the audience. So it’s just a matter of trying to find a balance between letting people know there’s a problem without making it the only thing they can think about»
