Lionel Richie cancels concerts following hospitalization

Lionel Richie has been hospitalized for the second time in a month and has canceled three concerts as part of his «Sing a Song All Night Long» tour with Earth, Wind & Fire. According to a representative for the singer, on September 22, he underwent a routine procedure to treat atrial fibrillation, and the surgery was successful. Richie is feeling well but will need time to recover.

According to TMZ, the canceled concerts were scheduled to take place in San Francisco, Chicago, and Columbus. Atrial fibrillation is a heart rhythm disorder that can lead to blood clots and increases the risk of stroke and heart failure.

Less than a month ago, Richie was also hospitalized and was in the intensive care unit. A source close to the singer’s tour reported that he wanted to undergo an examination and stayed in St. Louis, but he feels fine. In June, Richie mentioned that he felt «dizzy» and «weird» during a concert in St. Paul, after which he ended the performance early and went to the hospital.

Lionel Richie began his music career in college and released his debut solo album in 1982 after working with the Commodores. He is a four-time Grammy Award winner, an Oscar winner, and a Golden Globe winner. In addition to the tour with Earth, Wind & Fire, Richie plans to start a residency at the Encore Theater in Las Vegas on October 14.
