The heavy metal genre has lost one of its own. Paul Di’Anno passed away at the age of 66 at his home in Salisbury, Maryland. His departure was confirmed by the vocalist of Iron Maiden’s label, Conquest Music, who published a statement on behalf of his family on Facebook on Monday, October 21, 2024. «Despite serious health problems in recent years that limited him to performing in a wheelchair, Paul continued to delight his fans around the world, giving over 100 concerts since 2023», - the statement read. They added: «Conquest Music is proud that Paul Di’Anno was part of our artistic family, and asks his legion of fans to raise a glass in his memory».

Iron Maiden is a popular heavy metal band founded in the 1970s. Speaking to Metal Hammer in 2022, he shared: «The two albums I recorded with the band were key [for the metal genre]. Later, when I met Metallica, Pantera, and Sepultura, and they told me that these albums inspired their music, I was incredibly proud». He was fired from the band due to alleged substance abuse, according to Rolling Stone.

Following his recent passing, the band dedicated a post to him on social media, which read: «We deeply mourn the loss of Paul Di’Anno today. Paul’s contribution to Iron Maiden was huge and helped us on the path we have taken as a group for almost five decades. His revolutionary presence as a frontman and vocalist, both on stage and on our first two albums, will be very warmly remembered not only by us, but by fans around the world».

The cause of Paul’s death has not been disclosed, but he openly spoke about health problems. In June 2024, he told The Metal Voice: «I've been very sick for the past couple of months with infection after infection after infection, because I caught pneumonia last year in Mexico. I was there doing physiotherapy after finishing a tour».
