Leslie Abramson is best known as the lawyer who defended the Menendez brothers during their murder trial of their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez, in 1989. Lyle and Erik Menendez were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. While many believed the brothers committed the crime for inheritance, Lyle and Erik claimed that they were emotionally, physically, and sexually abused by both parents during their childhood. Recently, the case has gained attention again thanks to shows like «Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story» by Ryan Murphy and the documentary «The Menendez Brothers». Abramson played a significant role in defending the brothers, and in a 1996 interview with The Washington Post, she stated: «They are not killers. They are troubled children in a very difficult and absurd family situation, and they broke. … It’s an absurdly disproportionate verdict and punishment for what happened here. When children kill their parents, something is wrong in that family. It’s a different moral mix for sexual predators, those who kill strangers».

Many wonder where Abramson is now and if she is still in contact with the brothers.

Abramson has kept a low profile for a long time. After defending the Menendez brothers, she briefly acted as a lawyer for producer Phil Spector, but left the case before he was found guilty of second-degree murder. Since then, she has kept her personal life, including details about her children, private. According to Entertainment Tonight, she retired from practicing law in 2013.

In a video interview with Entertainment Tonight, Abramson was asked about the Menendez brothers and the upcoming court hearing. She replied: «I will not be making any comments about my client. None». When asked if she watched shows based on the case, she cut in: «That piece of shit I’ve heard about? No, I don’t watch any of that».

It is unclear if Abramson remains in contact with the Menendez brothers. Initially, they were held in different prisons, but in 2018 they were reunited and are now both incarcerated at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility. Their next court hearing is scheduled for November 29, according to Variety.
