Lane Johnson announces retirement from the NFL
Legendary Philadelphia Eagles defender Lane Johnson announced his retirement from football midway through his 14th season with the team. In a social media post on October 6, Johnson, who is 36 years old, noted that he has given everything over the past 14 years, striving not only to honor the legacy of his predecessors but also to set a new standard of success for his team.

He played in the first three games of the 2026 NFL season but missed the game on October 4 against the Los Angeles Rams for personal reasons. Johnson emphasized that it is critically important for him to focus on his mental health right now and that he owes it to the team, coaches, and fans to be fully engaged in the game. According to him, his heart tells him that it is time to say goodbye to football.

Lane Johnson married Kelsey Holmer in April and has three children — sons Jace (13 years old) and Mac (7 years old) and daughter Journey (10 years old) from his previous marriage to Chelsea Goodman, whom he was married to from 2013 to 2022. In his farewell message, he thanked Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie and the entire organization for the opportunity to change his life and expressed gratitude to his coaches and teammates.

Throughout his career, Johnson has openly discussed his struggles with depression and anxiety. In 2021, he took a break from his career to address his mental health, noting that the accumulating issues had reached a critical point. He admitted that discussing his experiences with those who do not understand what it is like was very difficult.
