At New York Comic Con, actress Linda Cardellini and showrunner Brad Kayn discussed the new prequel to the film «Friday the 13th» titled «Crystal Lake». Linda Cardellini plays the role of Pamela Voorhees and shared her vision of the character, noting that she is a woman trying to build her life in a new city with her son.
According to Cardellini, Pamela strives to make her son happy and cares for him despite the difficulties she faces. She works as a cook at a camp when tragic events unfold. Brad Kayn praised Linda for her performance, calling it «a dream for a young horror fan».
Cardellini also noted that the franchise’s fans are very dedicated, which makes the project special. She expressed hope that viewers will be pleased with what they see. The series' plot reveals the backstory of Pamela Voorhees, who first appeared on screen in 1980, portrayed by Betsy Palmer. Linda emphasized that while Betsy Palmer gave the character a wonderful performance, viewers lack information about her past.
In the first episode, Cardellini appears in a scene where she is covered in blood, which, according to her, hints at the further development of the plot and her story with Jason. She also praised the team for their work on the special effects and the show’s aesthetic, which is set in the 1970s.
Brad Kayn spoke about the sound design of the franchise, mentioning original composer Harry Manfredini, who created the signature sound that became the hallmark of the series. «Crystal Lake» will premiere on October 15 on the Peacock platform.
