The character LL Cool J, Sam Hanna, returns to the NCIS franchise with a new spinoff set in New York City. In an exclusive clip from Us magazine, released ahead of the premiere on October 6, Nick Shaffer (Scott Caan) introduces Sam to the key members of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service team based in New York.

The team also includes Eddie Ross (Jacqueline Bisset), described as aggressive, smart, and a bit mean. In response to her remark, «Only when provoked», - Nick adds that Wyatt Sellers (Shane Harper) is a newcomer from Alaska who has never been to big cities and recently broke up with his fiancée. Nick refers to him as «the milkman», - mentioning that he orders 20 ounces of whole milk for dinner, which seems quite strange.

Sean Sullivan (Devin Druid), the NCIS technical operator, is characterized as odd with a «broken moral compass», - but Nick notes that he does well at his job when he puts in the effort.

LL Cool J’s character was first introduced in 2009 during the sixth season of NCIS and became a co-lead in NCIS: Los Angeles. After that show concluded in 2023, LL Cool J appeared in NCIS: Hawaii and then returned to NCIS several times, including a two-episode arc in season 23 in 2026.

Showrunner Byron Balasco noted that New York is «our most iconic capital» and emphasized that filming in the city has its pros and cons. He added that the team aims to make the show as authentic as possible so that viewers feel like they are on the streets of the city alongside the characters.

NCIS: New York will also strive to balance crossovers with other shows in the franchise, with Balasco emphasizing that the goal is to create a unique show that will be interesting to viewers even if they are not familiar with other NCIS projects. The premiere of NCIS: New York will air on CBS on October 6 at 9 PM Eastern Time, and the following day the show will be available for streaming on Paramount+.
