Lorne Michaels is not planning to leave SNL yet: what is known about his future

It is unclear when exactly Lorne plans to leave the SNL show. During his interview for ET in 2024, the writer noted that SNL had planned its 50th anniversary special for February 2025, adding: «So, I will definitely be there at that time and definitely be there until then. And then we’ll figure out what we’re going to do».
Lorne agreed with ET’s Nischelle Turner in 2024 when she pointed out that many think Tina Fey could replace him.
«It could easily be Tina Fey», - Lorne admitted, adding: «But there are a lot of people there now, you know… Tina is great and excellent in everything. She is a very important person in my life».
Tina started working at SNL in the late 1990s as a writer. She occasionally appeared in sketches as an extra actor and became the show’s first female head writer. By 2000, Tina became a cast member and eventually appeared on Weekend Update with Jimmy Fallon. In 2006, Tina left SNL to work on the comedy series 30 Rock
