Luigi Mancione quickly became one of the most well-known alleged criminals in America. In just one week, the 26-year-old data processing engineer and Ivy League graduate was arrested after shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in the head. Mancione, originally from a wealthy family in Maryland, was charged with the murder of 50-year-old Thompson. His arrest sparked controversy on social media, with some praising him for supposedly attacking a wealthy insurance company CEO, as many Americans struggle with paying for basic medical expenses.
As the entertainment industry has revived some of the most famous crime stories in TV shows and movies — such as Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story — social media users are speculating about who could potentially portray Mancione in a future film or TV show.
The suspect in the murder of the healthcare executive in New York seemed to lead a privileged life. He was the grandson of a wealthy real estate developer, a prestigious Baltimore school graduate, and also an alumnus of one of the country’s top private universities.
Thompson became the CEO of UnitedHealthcare, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group, in April 2021. He had been with the company since 2004 and previously held the position of CEO of its government programs, including Medicare and retiree coverage. The late executive’s estate was estimated to be around $ 43 million.
Currently, no one in Hollywood has publicly expressed interest in making a film about Mancione, but that hasn’t stopped filmmakers from striving for adaptations of stories. One of the most popular true crime films is «Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile» on Netflix, with Zac Efron playing the 1970s serial killer Ted Bundy.
There is also no TV series based on Mancione yet. However, fans are calling on Ryan Murphy to shoot another season of his anthology series Monster. The first season was dedicated to serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, and the second season focused on the imprisoned Menendez brothers.
