Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Dončić spoke about the difficulties he faced last season due to the custody battle over his daughters. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, he noted that he was able to see his children for only five days throughout the entire season.
Dončić, who is 27 years old, spent most of the season away from his daughters—Gabriela, who is two years old, and Olivia, who is ten months old—who lived with his ex-fiancée Anamarija Goltes in Slovenia. He admitted that it was very hard: «I can’t go through another season like this».
In December of last year, Dončić returned to Slovenia for Olivia’s birth, but a conflict arose between him and Goltes, resulting in the police being called to the hospital. Dončić returned to the U.S. on the same day.
After his breakup with Goltes in early 2026, their ongoing custody battle began. In March, Goltes filed for child support and attorney fees, which Dončić stated he was unaware of until the lawsuit was filed. In his statement, he emphasized that he «loves his daughters more than anything in the world» and is doing everything possible to have them with him in the U.S. during the season.
Last week, Dončić filed a petition under the Hague Convention to return his daughters from Slovenia to the U.S. This petition aims to secure access rights to the children, according to information on the U.S. State Department’s website. Just a few days prior, he returned to the U.S. after spending the summer with his daughters, choosing this time over participating in the Slovenian national team.
