The Art of Play boutique in Brooklyn responded to Kelly Clarkson’s allegations, in which she claimed that an awkward incident reminiscent of a scene from the movie «Pretty Woman» occurred at the store. In a statement published on October 11 on the store’s official Instagram page, it was noted that Clarkson visited their establishment and expressed interest in purchasing a unique singing and dancing bird automaton named «Molly», - which is not for sale and is attached to the wall.
On October 10, Clarkson tweeted that after her visit to the store, she felt as though she was «not allowed» to purchase the items displayed. She mentioned that despite her desire to buy something, the salesperson looked at her as if she wouldn’t be able to afford it and suggested finding something more affordable.
In response to her statement, the store published several positive reviews and emphasized that all visitors, regardless of their intentions, are always welcome. The statement also noted that the store was surprised by the sharp reaction from 8 million people who had not visited their establishment.
In conclusion, the store owners expressed hope for the possibility of resolving the misunderstanding with Clarkson in the future, quoting her song «Stronger»: «What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger». Kelly Clarkson has not yet commented on the subsequent events, but in 2023 she moved to New York with her two children.
