Former «Teen Mom» cast member Mackenzie Edwards has been granted temporary custody of her two children, whom she raises with ex-husband Ryan Edwards. A court in Tennessee issued the ruling on September 4, stating that the minors will remain in Mackenzie’s custody.
According to court documents, Ryan is allowed to see the children only at the home of his parents, Jen and Larry Edwards, and under their supervision. He is also prohibited from driving or transporting the children. The judge ruled that Ryan’s wife, Amanda Connor, cannot be alone with the children and is not permitted to transport them.
The court’s decision came as a result of an emergency petition filed by Mackenzie to modify the custody agreement. In August 2025, they signed an agreement that granted Mackenzie 225 days a year with the children, while Ryan was allotted 140 days, including overnight stays. The documents state that Mackenzie is the primary caregiver, and neither parent is allowed to use drugs while interacting with the children.
Mackenzie’s attorneys claim that she has reason to believe Ryan has returned to drug use. She stated that he is using kratom, which has been illegal in Tennessee since July. Mackenzie also emphasized that she has a close relationship with Ryan’s parents and considers them a positive influence on the children.
Mackenzie’s lawyers noted that «immediate temporary protection is necessary to ensure a safe and stable environment for the children while Ryan’s sobriety and the safety of his home environment are evaluated».
Mackenzie and Ryan separated in February 2023 after six years of marriage. In April 2024, Ryan’s ex-wife, Maci Bookout, acknowledged his progress in overcoming addiction, stating that he could achieve sobriety within a year.
