Marilyn Eliz Terrell charged with attempted murder of her sons

A 68-year-old Florida resident, Marilynn Elise Terrell, is accused of attempting to murder her two autistic sons by overdosing them with medication. The incident occurred on September 8, when Terrell also attempted to take her own life by ingesting medication, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
Terrell, from Kissimmee, was arrested on September 18 and charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder and two counts of abuse of the elderly or disabled. On the day of the incident, an overdose was reported at her home, and all three family members were taken to the hospital for treatment.
After being discharged from the hospital on September 17, Terrell allegedly confessed to detectives that since her husband passed away last year, she has found it increasingly difficult to care for her adult sons. According to the Osceola County Sheriff, she intentionally overdosed her sons in an attempt to kill them. At the time charges were filed, her sons were still in the hospital but are reportedly expected to recover.
The investigation concluded that the overdose was not accidental, gathering evidence from Terrell’s home and interviewing relatives and the landlord. She was placed in the Osceola County Jail, where her bail was set at $ 50,000. The public defender’s office in Orlando is representing her, but did not respond to a request for comment.
After recovery, Terrell’s sons will be placed in state custody. Their names have not been disclosed.
