Mariska Hargitay reveals more details about her viral moment helping a little girl. During a new interview, the 60-year-old actress recalled how a child approached her on the set of the series «Law & Order: Special Victims Unit» to ask for help, thinking that Mariska was a real police officer. The little girl couldn’t find her mother at the time and approached Mariska while she was filming a scene for SVU last month.

«I don’t know why she mistook me for a police officer. This little angelic girl needed help, and we connected, and I felt it», - Mariska told Entertainment Tonight on Thursday, May 2, at the Power of Women event presented by Lifetime in New York. «So I did what any mother on this planet would do».

Fortunately, the girl was soon reunited with her mother. Although Mariska did not stay in touch with the mother and daughter, the NBC star told the magazine that she «was able to hug her mom and her, and it was beautiful».

An insider also told ET what happened that day. «Mariska was filming with Ice-T and was interrupted by a little girl who walked onto the set. She went straight to Mariska», - the witness said, adding that Mariska stopped filming the scene to help the child.

Paparazzi captured the moment, and the video quickly spread on social media. In one of the clips, Mariska lifted the little girl to carry her while others helped find her mother. Seeing the viral moment, users couldn’t help but admire Mariska’s caring personality.

«I love Mariska Hargitay», - wrote one person on Twitter, adding, «Many actors would have just handed the little girl off to someone else to deal with, instead of going with her to find her mother, stopping production. What a legend!»

In addition to her selflessness, Mariska was also recognized for her advocacy for survivors of sexual violence at the Power of Women event presented by Lifetime this week. The actress delivered a moving speech about the importance of women’s voices and condemned the overturning of Harvey Weinstein’s conviction.

«I want to say something about the overturned conviction of Harvey Weinstein», - she began. «Specifically, the reason for its overturn: Too many women’s voices. Too many women were allowed to speak… Is it risky to let women speak? Yes, of course. Too many women speaking brings change».

If you or someone you know has been a victim of sexual violence, please call the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1−800−656-HOPE (4673). A trained staff member will provide confidential, impartial support, as well as local resources for healing, recovery, etc
