The Fantastic Four has officially become part of the sixth phase in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! During the studio panel at Comic Con in San Diego in 2024, the actors and crew came out to talk about their upcoming film. According to director Matt Shakman, the film will have a «retro-futuristic» setting of the 60s. «For me, the 60s are about optimism», - he explained to the crowd in Hall H at SDCC. «I love the Fantastic Four. I love their powers. We want to be true to the comics, but we also want to be true to life».
Actor from The Last of Us and Game of Thrones graduate Pedro Pascal plays Mr. Fantastic/Reed Richards, alongside The Crown graduate Vanessa Kirby, who plays Susan Storm/Invisible Woman. Stranger Things cast member Joseph Quinn was chosen to play Johnny Storm/Human Torch, while The Bear star Ebon Moss-Bachrach plays Ben Grimm/Thing. The quartet characters are commonly known as the «First Family» of Marvel.
Actress Julia Garner plays the Silver Surfer, and Ralph Ineson plays Galactus. Meanwhile, Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, and John Malkovich all play unspecified roles in the film.
Appearing at Comic Con in 2024, Vanessa admired how she and the actors bonded on set.
«I don’t think I’ve laughed so much during rehearsals before», - the actress said. «When you read comics, you feel a lot of joy… I hope we can bring that to the film».
