The United States government has undergone major changes since Donald Trump took office. Earlier this year, diversity, equality, and inclusivity programs were cut, and recently the Department of Health and Social Services announced layoffs in an attempt to «restructure» the system. The new department secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., stated that the department had become «wasteful and inefficient» in a statement published on the department’s website.

«Over time, bureaucracies like the Department of Health and Social Services become wasteful and inefficient, even when most of their employees are dedicated and competent civil servants», - Kennedy said in the statement. «This reorganization will be a win-win for taxpayers and those served by the department. It’s all of the American people, because our goal is to make America healthy again».

At this time, find out how many employees of the Department of Health and Social Services will be laid off.

According to the Department of Health and Social Services website, there were 82,000 full-time employees working there.

According to CNN, so far 10,000 employees have voluntarily left the department, but ultimately 20,000 jobs will be cut. The department noted on its website that the «restructuring» will reduce the department from 82,000 full-time employees to 62,000.

The department noted that the staff reduction «will serve several purposes, without affecting critical services» and «will save taxpayers $ 1.8 billion annually by reducing staff numbers».

«We are not just reducing bureaucratic bloat. We are reorienting the organization to its core mission and our new priorities in combating the epidemic of chronic diseases», - RFK Jr. said in the statement. «This department will do more — much more — at a lower cost to the taxpayer».

Additionally, the department plans to eliminate «many redundant divisions», - noting that its existing 28 divisions will be reduced to 15, including the «new Healthy America Administration, or AHA, and centralizing key functions such as human resources, information technology, procurement, external affairs, and policy».

The restructuring is also part of the department’s «new priority» goal — to end the «epidemic of chronic diseases in America, focusing on safe, nutritious food, clean water, and eliminating environmental toxins», - according to the department’s website
