Mass shooting at a nightclub in Queens: all the details and developments

Shortly after the start of 2025, New York was faced with a mass shooting in one of the city’s neighborhoods. In Jamaica, Queens, several attackers opened fire on people outside the Amazura nightclub on Wednesday evening, January 1st. According to authorities, no one was killed, and the shooting is currently under active investigation. The New York Police Department noted that this was not a terrorist attack like the incident on New Year’s Eve in New Orleans, but the police are considering a possible connection to gang activity.

According to a statement by New York Police Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera, «Four men approached the establishment, three to four men began firing over 30 times towards people outside the establishment, hitting several victims» before 11:30 pm on January 1, 2025. The chief added that there is «zero tolerance for these senseless shootings, these acts of violence» and that «those responsible will be held accountable».
Around 90 people were inside the Amazura nightclub. Ten people were injured by gunfire on 144th Place in Queens. Six of the victims were women, and four were men aged 16 to 20. According to ABC7 Eyewitness News, they are all expected to recover. The media also reported that a birthday and celebration of the life of the late 16-year-old Taerion Mungo, who was killed in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, in October 2024, was taking place there.
Police noted that around 30 shots were fired before the suspects fled the scene in a gray Infinity with out-of-state license plates.
