The nationwide Verizon outage appears to be caused by a «software issue», - the company confirmed in a statement, according to multiple sources.
«We are aware of a software issue affecting wireless connectivity for some customers», - read Verizon’s statement. «Our engineers are on it, and we are working quickly to identify and resolve the issue».
Verizon also recommended customers to «visit our network status check page for updates on service in your area».
«We know how much people rely on Verizon, and we apologize for any inconvenience», - the remaining part of the statement read. «We appreciate your patience. Thank you again».
Depending on the area and customer, outages are still being reported nationwide at the time of publication. Complaints on downdetector.com increased to over 20,000 around 12:30 Eastern Time, then the number of new reports decreased. However, there were still over 18,000 reports on the site.
Customers in Florida, California, Wisconsin, and other states were still reporting issues with cell service by 6:00 Eastern Time on downdetector.com. Many claimed that their phones were not working for several hours on that day
