Christopher Watts' mother claims he did not kill his daughters
Chris Watts' mother insists that he did not kill his daughters, despite his guilty plea. In an interview with The Daily Mail on October 6, Cindy Watts stated, «Christopher is a good man, I know him. No one from his past or even now, who meets him in prison, can say anything bad about him». She added that «there's no way he could have killed his girls».

Shanann Watts, 34, and their daughters, Bella and Celeste, went missing in August 2018 and were found dead three days later. At the time of the murders, Shanann was 15 weeks pregnant. Chris, 41, quickly became a suspect and was arrested shortly thereafter. It later emerged that he was having an affair with a colleague at the time he killed his family. He avoided trial by pleading guilty on November 6, 2018, and was sentenced to five consecutive life terms in prison.

Cindy noted that Chris chose to avoid trial because he did not want to «subject the family to that». However, she expressed a desire for the case to go to trial so her son could state, «I killed Shanann, but not my girls». When Chris first confessed, he told police that he killed Shanann because she told him she had killed the girls. Cindy believes this version «makes the most sense».

Meanwhile, Chris’s father, Ronnie Watts, pointed out inconsistencies in his second confession. He does not deny that his son is a murderer but questions whether Chris acted alone or had an accomplice. Ronnie also wonders why Chris agreed to a plea deal when his lawyers could have presented evidence in court. Chris’s sister, Jamie, is also seeking answers, noting that «a normal guy who never had problems in life suddenly loses his mind and destroys his whole family. It doesn’t make sense».
