The mother of R. J. Mitte, Daina Mitte, issued a statement regarding his tragic death at the age of 34. In an interview with NBC News, she revealed that she was the one who found her son dead in his home in Brownsville, Texas.
According to Daina, on Monday morning she tried to call him, but he did not answer. She noted, «I called him at 11, he didn’t answer, so I bought lunch and went to his place, and that’s when I found him». Daina believes that his decision to take his own life was «impulsive».
It has been reported that before his death, Mitte was experiencing mental health issues. Daina added, «For the last three months, I had been suggesting he go to therapy, trying to convince him, but he said, ‘No, I’m fine. Everything is okay. I’m handling it.'»
Speaking about her public address following his death, Daina remarked, «If my speaking out today can save someone from a similar situation, because a mother should never have to find her child like this. If I can help even one person, I think that’s what R. J. would have wanted». She emphasized that R. J. was a «special soul» and a «great actor», - adding, «I just want him to be remembered for all the wonderful things he did in life and for all the people he impacted».
