Matthew McConaughey talked about taking a break in his Hollywood career

Matthew McConaughey briefly considered a new job outside of Hollywood. In a recent conversation with Glenn Powell for Interview magazine, the actor recalled a period in his career when he decided to step away from the cameras.
«I usually did not do what Hollywood wanted», - said Matthew, 54, in the interview published on June 10. «When I had years of romantic comedies, I could only give them a certain amount of attention, and they were big successes for me. But I wanted to try something else. Of course, I didn’t get that, so I had to leave Hollywood for two years».
For Matthew — who starred in box office hits such as «How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days», - «Failure to Launch», - and «The Wedding Planner» — he found support from his wife Camila Alves.
«I talked a lot with my wife about needing to find a new occupation», - he recalled. «I thought, 'I'm going to teach high school. I think I’m going to be a conductor. I think I’m going to be a wilderness guide.' Honestly, I thought, 'I'm out of Hollywood. I’m out of my path.' The path that Hollywood advised me on, and Hollywood says, 'Well, okay, buddy. You should have stayed on your path. See you later.'»
During that time, Matthew described the days as «long» and felt a «sense of insignificance».
«It was scary», - he added. «But I made the decision that it was what I needed to do, so I wasn’t going to abandon the mission I was on. But it was scary because I didn’t know if I would ever get out of the desert».
Ultimately, Matthew has no plans to stop filming movies and TV shows anytime soon. While he still calls Texas home with his wife and their three children Levi, 15, Vida, 14, and Livingston, 11, the actor recently appeared in the film «The Gentlemen» and is expected to play the lead role in the upcoming drama «The Lost Bus» by Oscar nominee Paul Greengrass with America Ferrera.
He has also been able to expand beyond Hollywood by founding the company Pantalones Organic Tequila and serving as a lecturer at his alma mater, the University of Texas at Austin.
