Rock musician and heavy metal singer Michael Bolton was diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer — glioblastoma in 2023. Almost two years later, he and his family openly shared about the illness and how Michael adapted to living with this condition.

Read below for updates on how Michael is doing now, and learn about his cancer diagnosis.

Michael revealed his cancer diagnosis in January 2024 in an announcement on Instagram. Almost a year later, during an interview with People in April 2025, Michael described his experiences living with glioblastoma.

«You tap into your resources and determination in a way you never thought possible», - he explained. «Giving up is not an option. You quickly get into the fight. I think that’s how you find out what you’re made of».

Although it has been a difficult journey so far, Michael noted: «When you find yourself in any tough situation, just knowing you’re not alone in it is a big deal».

Glioblastoma is a form of brain cancer that begins with the growth of cells in the brain or spinal cord and progresses rapidly, according to the Mayo Clinic. Although the disease mainly occurs in adults, it can arise at any age. There is currently no cure for cancer.

No, Michael is currently not married. He was previously married to his ex-wife, Maureen McGuire, from 1975 to 1990. He then began a relationship with Nicollette Sheridan, and they had an on-and-off relationship from the early 1990s to 2008. In that year, they called off their engagement and finally parted ways.

Michael shares three daughters, Isa, Tarin, and Holly, with his ex-wife, Maureen. During Michael’s interview with People in 2025, his children — all of whom are adults now — recalled the moment when they realized something was wrong with their father’s health. During a bowling party, they noticed that Michael kept throwing balls out of turn.

«That's when we thought, 'Something's not right with his brain,'» Tarin noted. «Everything that was happening was strange for him, but not too alarming. When we look back together… We missed so many things».

At that time, Michael’s career was in good shape. However, the symptoms continued to progress slowly, but he and his family assumed it was because he was «working non-stop all this time».

«Traveling, concerts, all those things. We thought he was aging, tired, overloaded», - Tarin added. «We somehow explained all these things in our own way, one by one»
