Michael Douglas admitted that he had a romantic relationship with his co-star Kathleen Turner. He revealed this in his new autobiography «One Helluva Ride», - which is set to be released on October 6.
In an excerpt published by People magazine, the 82-year-old Douglas recalls how he fell in love with the 72-year-old Turner while filming «The Jewel of the Nile» in Mexico in 1983. At that time, he was already in the process of separating from his wife Diandra, the mother of his son Cameron. Douglas describes Turner as a «smart, funny, and sexy» woman with a «deep, seductive voice», - noting that there was an immediate attraction between them.
He also mentions that serious feelings developed between them on set, which were not a fleeting infatuation but grew naturally amid the pressures they faced while working together. Douglas recounts that after long shooting days, they would spend time together, and he would sneak into her hotel room.
However, their romance ended when Diandra brought Cameron to Mexico. Douglas notes that after that visit, Turner began to doubt their relationship, and they decided to part ways. He adds that this decision was influenced by his desire to be close to his son, although he believed they should not have gotten back together.
Despite never admitting their feelings for each other, Douglas claims that audiences always suspected their affair. He also pointed out that the official narrative of their relationship was a lie they maintained for 40 years to protect his family.
Currently, Douglas and Turner remain friends, and he asked for her permission to include information about their relationship in the book. Turner, for her part, commented on the news, stating that it is merely «a fuss about something that happened 40 years ago», - and expressed her love for Douglas.
Douglas and Diandra divorced in 1995, which cost him $ 45 million in settlement. In 2000, he married Catherine Zeta-Jones, with whom he has two children. Diandra married William Legge, a stepbrother of Princess Diana, last year.
