Megadeth announced their farewell: final album and farewell tour

Heavy metal is going through a heartbreaking summer. First, fans had to mourn the premature death of Ozzy Osbourne. Now, Megadeth, founded in 1983, has announced that the «end is near» for them. Current members Dave Mustaine, Kiko Loureiro, James LoMenzo, and Dirk Verbeuren will embark on a farewell tour in 2026, and they will release their final album together.
Dave announced the news in a public statement in August 2025. He said, in part: «Don't be angry, don’t be sad, be happy for all of us, come celebrate with me these next few years».

Dave shared the announcement in a post with the «Cyber Army», - where the group’s mascot and Dave’s «alter-ego», - Vic Rattlehead, was depicted as «speaking».
«As so many musicians come to the end of their careers, whether by accident or by design», - Dave explained. «Most of them don’t go out on their terms at the top, and that’s where I am in my life right now. I’ve traveled the world and won over millions of fans, and the hardest part of all of this is saying goodbye to them».
Adding that all Megadeth members «can't wait for [fans] to hear this album and see [them] on tour», - Dave added: «If there was ever a perfect time for us to release a new album, it’s now. If there was ever a perfect time to go on a world tour, it’s now. It’s also the perfect time for us to tell you that this is our last studio album».
«We've made a lot of friends over the years, and I hope to see all of you on our global farewell tour», - the musician continued. «Don't be angry, don’t be sad, be happy for all of us, come celebrate with me these next few years. We’ve done something truly remarkable together, and it probably won’t happen again. We started a musical style, we started a revolution, we changed the world of guitar and how it’s played, and we changed the world. The bands I’ve played in have influenced the world.
