Megan McCain criticizes Blake Lively for promoting a movie about domestic violence

Former star of «The View» Meghan McCain expressed her opinion on how Blake Lively is promoting her film «It Ends with Us» — a story about a woman struggling with domestic violence.
«If you take on the responsibility of telling a story about a woman in a situation of domestic violence, you should respect that you represent millions of women and men who have been victims of domestic violence», - McCain said in an episode of her podcast Citizen McCain on Wednesday, referring to a promotional video where Lively encouraged women to watch the film. «I was very surprised by some of her responses».
The 39-year-old actress added, «I think the tone she sets in many interviews about this, saying, 'Put on your floral dresses and get together, girls.'»
The star of «The Age of Adaline», - known for her optimistic attitude and comedic relationship with her husband, «Deadpool» star Ryan Reynolds, was accused of taking the wrong approach to promoting the film based on Collin Hoover’s bestseller, which addresses themes of domestic violence and abuse.
In the film, Lively’s character, Lily Bloom, enters into a relationship with an aggressive man, Ryle Kincaid, played by director Justin Baldoni — about whom there were rumors of ongoing feud with his co-star.
However, during the film tour, Lively urged viewers to «put on their floral dresses», - echoing the «wear pink» trend around Barbie last year, avoiding explicit mentions of domestic violence.
McCain expressed her dissatisfaction with this approach, saying, «I don’t want to put on floral dresses and go with my friends to watch a fun women’s movie about domestic violence», - calling the suggestion «very insensitive and, frankly, strange».
McCain then moved on to more personal criticism of Lively, admitting, «I don’t understand why she is famous, other than for 'Gossip Girl' and her marriage to Ryan Reynolds», - adding, «I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything she’s been in».
«I'm also just tired of hearing about Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively», - McCain confessed at the end of her comment. «I'm tired of hearing about them, and I think it’s a dangerous place for any celebrity».
