Everyone who watched the first night of the 2024 Democratic National Convention noticed that it lasted longer than usual, and Meghan McCain didn’t try to hide it. At 11:00 pm on Monday, August 19, the 39-year-old TV host tweeted that she was «giving up» and would no longer watch the DNC, noting that she «can't stay awake until such a late hour» and that «we all have lives and children».

«God give strength to our 81-year-old president to endure this hour», - Meghan added, addressing President Joe Biden. «Whoever arranged this for him and allowed it to last so long at this time is a fool, and it is disrespectful to Biden».

In a previous tweet that evening, Meghan asked, «Are they seriously planning to have President Biden speak at midnight?!?»

The first night of the event started at 8:00 pm Eastern Time and lasted until midnight. Joe delivered a long speech, praising Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign and reflecting on his ten-year political career. He was greeted with loud standing ovations.

By the end of his speech, Joe noted that he had five months left in his presidency and that he had «a lot to do». «I intend to do it», - he said, adding, «It has been the honor of my life to serve as your president. I love my job, but I love my country more. Those who said I need to leave, that’s not true. We love our country more, and we need to preserve our democracy».

The president concluded, admitting, «I have made many mistakes in my career. But I have given you all that I could. For 50 years, like many of you, I have given my heart and soul to our nation. And I have been blessed a million times over in response to the support of the American people. I was truly too young to be in the Senate because I was not yet 30, and now I am too old to remain president.

«But I hope you know how grateful I am to all of you», - he added. «I can honestly say, and I say this from the bottom of my heart, speaking as Biden: I can honestly say that I am more optimistic about the future than I was when I was elected as a 29-year-old US senator»
