Meghan Markle hopes that Prince Harry will «let go» of legal disputes and focus on his own life — free from royal drama, which has become a significant part of their everyday life.
Harry, 39, has been involved in several legal disputes in recent years, and there is no more critical issue for him than ensuring the safety of their family of four. Since he was stripped of police protection by the Metropolitan Police in 2020, Harry has been fighting to restore police protection. This year, he lost his attempt to reinstate taxpayer-funded security, but plans to appeal.
Markle, however, «would like him to let go of these legal battles, be happy, and live in the present moment», - a former employee of their Archewell Foundation told PEOPLE, adding that she still «supports Harry 100 percent».
«She wants him to be free from all of this, but she also understands that because of everything he’s been through, and his love for [her and their children], he can’t. She wants him to live in a world where he is not burdened by all of this», - the former employee said.
Several well-informed sources within the Sussex circle told the publication that Harry believes his father, King Charles III, has the ability to reinstate his security. Buckingham Palace did not comment on security matters, but a palace source said that the idea that Harry’s security is in Charles’s hands is «completely untrue».
Constitutionally, the monarch has no governmental power in the UK, and the responsibility for providing police protection lies with the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC), which operates under the UK government. However, Harry, whose proposal to personally finance police protection was rejected in court, believes that as king, his father could intervene to provide this protection.
His desperate pleas to his father continue, as Prince Harry once believed that security would remain unchanged during his transition from royal duties, especially after the late queen acknowledged the «effective security» of the couple as of the utmost importance.
«The queen made it clear that effective security was necessary because of threats against them, but there was interference along the way», - claims a royal source.
The security issue has created a significant rift between Harry and Charles, leading to a breakdown in communication. A friend of Harry claims that the king no longer answers his son’s calls and does not respond to his letters. «He gets a response of 'unavailable at the moment'», - the friend said. «His calls go unanswered. He has tried to reach out regarding the king’s health, but those calls go unanswered as well».
Legal battles have already been tough, but the security issue adds another layer to Harry’s persistence in continuing the fight. But at the end of the day, a friend of Harry said that «swords in the scabbard» if the security issue can be resolved in any way, as nothing «would bring [Harry] greater happiness than the opportunity to restore his relationship with his father»
