Meghan Markle shone with her charm, making a surprise appearance at the 2024 ESPYs Awards ceremony.

On Thursday evening, the actress from the series «Suits» and the Duke of Sussex attended the star-studded event at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, showcasing stunning black and white outfits. The Duchess of Sussex, 42-year-old Meghan, looked radiant in an elegant white wrap dress by Oscar de la Renta, paired with black strappy heels, while her husband was dressed in a black suit with a slim silk tie.

Prince Harry, 39, was honored with the prestigious Pat Tillman Award for Service at the annual event, named after legendary NFL player and U.S. Army Ranger Pat Tillman. Tillman was a defender for the Arizona Cardinals who enlisted in the U.S. Army after the September 11 attacks. He died in Afghanistan in 2004 as a result of friendly fire. The award, named after him, «is presented to an individual with a strong connection to sports who has served others so profoundly that it echoes his legacy», - according to ESPN.

On stage, Harry expressed gratitude to Tillman’s mother, saying that her «protection of Pat’s legacy is very personal» and that he respects it. «The bond between mother and son is eternal and transcends even the greatest losses».

«I stand here not as Prince Harry, recipient of the Pat Tillman Award, but as a voice on behalf of the Invictus Games Foundation and thousands of veterans and service members from over 20 countries who have made the Invictus Games Foundation a reality», - he continued.

«This award belongs to them, not to me».

When the nominees were announced, protests arose from fans and Pat Tillman’s mother, Mary Tillman, who believed that the duke was not a suitable candidate for the award due to his fame and connections. She told Daily Mail: «I am shocked as to why they chose such a controversial and divisive personality to receive the award».

«There are more suitable candidates», - she continued. «There are people working in the veteran community who are doing huge things to help veterans».

ESPN then responded: «ESPN, in support of the Tillman Foundation, recognizes Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, specifically for his work with the Invictus Games Foundation, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, promoting healing through the power of sports for military personnel and veterans worldwide».

«While we understand that not everyone will agree with all recipients of any award, the Invictus Games Foundation is doing incredible work, and ESPN believes it is worthy of recognition»
