Meghan Markle met with activist Malala Yousafzai to discuss important issues regarding education for girls. On her Instagram on October 11, she announced that in honor of International Day of the Girl, 100% of the profits from the sales of As Ever jams and teas will go to support the Malala Fund, which works to ensure access to free, quality education for girls.
Meghan and Malala were spotted having lunch at Claridge’s in London on October 7. At the meeting, Meghan wore a white outfit, while Malala was in a beige blazer and black blouse. In her As Ever newsletter, Meghan confirmed that the proceeds from her famous fruit spread will be directed towards funding education for girls.
The Malala Fund aims to ensure that every girl has the right to 12 years of education and to create a more equal and safe world so that all girls can attend and complete school. Meghan co-manages Archewell Philanthropies with her husband, Prince Harry, in honor of their son.
Meghan’s meeting with Malala took place nearly two months after the Duchess returned to England following six years of living in California. Meghan and Harry left the UK in 2020, stepping back from their roles as senior working members of the royal family. In an interview with Hello! magazine in September, Harry noted that the past few weeks had been «eventful».
Although neither Harry nor Meghan disclosed the reasons for their move, they do not plan to resume royal duties. King Charles III emphasized in a letter to the Sussex team that the charitable work of the Duke and Duchess is a personal matter and is conducted privately.
