TikTok star Melanie Wilking speaks out about the drama Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult. In response to her estranged sister Miranda Derrick’s reaction to the documentary, Melanie stated that Miranda and her husband, James Derrick, «repeatedly reached out» to them about it.
«And every time they were refused», - Melanie told Access Hollywood on Thursday, June 6.
The social media star continued to point out that she and her family «knew [Miranda] was in a cult, so of course we were cautious». The dancer also explained that she «attended two of the closed dinners [7M] and two of the services that required an invitation, and I noticed all these red flags».
«So when she says we weren’t supportive, it’s because I saw what she didn’t see», - Melanie continued, addressing Miranda. «I saw what they wanted, because I stopped going, they wanted to tear us apart. And here we are».
Earlier this week, Miranda released a statement through her Instagram Stories about the cult allegations made in the three-part Netflix documentary series that premiered on May 29.
«I love my mom, dad, and Melanie, and they will forever be a part of my life», - Miranda began. «The truth is, we just don’t see eye to eye at the moment. I believe this documentary is a one-sided story. I gave my life to Jesus Christ in 2020 and asked my family for some space right at the beginning to gather my thoughts and contemplate the new path I wanted to take with God».
Miranda added that no one «likes to be portrayed as manipulated/uncontrolling their life/a shell of themselves/human trafficking victim daughter/sister when it’s just not true».
The Netflix documentary focuses on the scandal involving 7M Films Shekinah Church, in which Miranda has been involved since 2020. The group was founded by Pastor Robert Shinn, who is currently in a legal dispute with several former members of 7M.
Robert filed a defamation lawsuit against a former church member in 2022. The member denied the allegations and countersued Robert the following year. In March 2023, the former member stated, «Shekinah is a cult operating under the guise of a religious institution», - according to Rolling Stone
