Melissa Gilbert shared a cryptic message on social media amid updates regarding her husband, Timothy Busfield. On October 16, it became known that the judge dismissed the charges against Busfield for child sexual abuse.
Gilbert, 62, posted on Instagram: «So shines a good deed in a weary world». In her Instagram Stories, she also shared an article from the New York Times, titled: «Judge Dismisses Child Sexual Abuse Charges Against Timothy Busfield».
According to court documents, Judge Joseph Montano granted Busfield’s motion to dismiss charges on four counts of sexual contact with a minor. The judge pointed to prosecutorial misconduct, including improper instructions to the grand jury, which violated legal procedures. However, as stated in the documents, the state has the right to initiate new criminal cases against Busfield, 69.
Bernalillo County District Attorney’s Office representative Nancy Laughlin stated that their office received the court’s decision and is evaluating its next steps. Gilbert has supported Busfield, who was first accused of child sexual abuse in February. The actor is accused of inappropriate touching of a child during the filming of the series «The Cleaner» from late 2022 to early 2024. Busfield denies the charges.
After her husband’s arrest, Gilbert’s representative stated that she is focused on supporting her large family during this difficult time. In an interview, Gilbert also defended Busfield, claiming he is «the last person on earth who would harm a child», - and expressed confidence in his exoneration.
