Rebel Wilson’s memoir, «Rebel Rising», - appeared on bookshelves in the US earlier this month, but in the UK they will only be available on Thursday, April 25 — and several excerpts about Sacha Baron Cohen have been removed. In the original published version, the 44-year-old actress from the «Pitch Perfect» franchise made several bombshell statements against the 52-year-old comedian.
«We are publishing every page, but for legal reasons in the British edition we are removing most of one page with some other small deletions and an explanatory note», - said a representative from HarperCollins in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. «These sections are a very small part of a much larger story, and we look forward to readers discovering Rebel’s story when the book is released».
A representative for Baron Cohen also provided a statement to the publication, claiming that the publisher «did not fact-check this chapter in the book before publication» and asserting that HarperCollins «took a reasonable but horribly belated step in removing Rebel Wilson’s defamatory statements when presented with evidence of their falsity».
«Printing lies is illegal in the UK and Australia; it is not a 'quirk,' as Ms. Wilson said, but a legal principle that has existed for many hundreds of years», - added the representative. «This is a clear victory for Sacha Baron Cohen and confirms what we have been saying from the start — that this is clearly false, in a shameful and unsuccessful attempt to sell books».
In her memoir, Rebel accused Sacha of sexual harassment. During the filming of their spy comedy «The Brothers Grimsby», - the Australian actress accused Sacha of suggesting that she appear naked in a future scene.
«I felt like every time I spoke with SBC, he would mention that he wanted me to be naked in a future scene», - she claimed in one excerpt from the original version. «I was like, 'Ha, I’m not getting naked, Sacha.'»
Rebel also recalled an alleged incident where Sacha sent a production assistant to tell her that she «needed to do an extra scene».
«'Okay, we’ll do this extra scene,' SBC says», - Rebel claimed. «Then he drops his pants. SBC very matter-of-factly says, 'Okay, now I want you to stick your finger up my a**.' And I’m like, 'What? … No!!'»
In response, an anonymous producer defended Sacha and the production team in a statement obtained by PEOPLE.
«According to the script that Rebel read and approved in advance, her character was attempting to stick her finger up Sacha’s character’s a**», - the producer claimed. «At no point did Sacha actually ask her to stick her finger up his a**. Throughout this entire period, she was treated with the utmost respect and support and was welcomed as a co-author in all creative areas»
