Matthew Perry’s bank details were disclosed almost a year after his death. According to multiple sources, the late 54-year-old actor had over 1.5 million dollars left in his personal account.
As reported by Us Weekly, Perry transferred most of his assets into a trust. In his will, written in 2009, his parents, Suzanne Morrison and John Perry, as well as his half-siblings from his parents' marriages, were named as beneficiaries of his trust. The assets of his trust were not disclosed.
This news came amid reports of an investigation into Perry’s cause of death. The «Friends» actor passed away in October 2023. He was found dead in the hot tub of his home in Pacific Palisades, California. There were no suspicions of foul play, and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner determined that he died from «acute effects of ketamine» as he was undergoing ketamine infusion therapy at the time. His toxicology report also noted other factors contributing to Perry’s death — drowning in the hot tub, coronary artery disease, and the effects of the opioid drug buprenorphine.
In May, there was a report of an alleged investigation into Perry’s death. According to TMZ, the Los Angeles police and the Drug Enforcement Administration were trying to determine where the late comedian obtained ketamine.
Throughout his career, Perry was open about his struggles with addiction. In 2022, he released his memoir «Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing», - in which he detailed his path to recovery. In one excerpt from the book, Perry talked about the consequences of abusing OxyContin, which led to his hospitalization in 2019. He ruptured his colon, and doctors told his family that he had only a two percent chance of survival.
«I will have to live out the rest of my days knowing that my mother and others heard those words», - wrote the star of «17 Again». «I realized that my greatest fear had come true, and I was to blame for it».
After attending therapy and treatment, Perry sought to help others struggling with addiction.
