Miley Cyrus became a legend of Disney at the D23 fan convention in 2024

Miley Cyrus still has the best of both worlds. As one of the most recognizable faces to come out of Disney Channel, the 31-year-old Grammy winner was named a Disney Legend at the D23 fan convention in Anaheim, California, over the weekend. This recognition came almost 20 years after «Hannah Montana» first premiered on screens in 2006.
Taking the stage to accept the honor, Miley became emotional, thanking the Walt Disney Company and her fans.
«In 2005, Disney was on a mission to rebuild the company. That’s why they hired [Disney CEO] Bob Iger and me», - the star of the hit «Malibu» said, jokingly adding that many believed she and her Disney Channel colleagues were created «in a lab» at the Disney office in Burbank, California. «If I was created, there must have been a glitch in the system that made me act out somewhere between 2013 and 2016», - she joked, apparently alluding to her transformation from her Disney days to the Bangerz album.
In her speech, Miley reminisced about her time as Hannah Montana and urged the audience to remember that «there is no such thing as failure when you’re trying».
«I'll give you all a little Disney Legend secret — I’m the one who tells you what you’re not supposed to know», - joked the actress of «The Last Song». «And I want to say that legends are afraid too. I’m scared right now, but the difference is that we still do it, and each of you can do it every day. Being scared and still doing it — that’s legendary».
In addition to Miley, other recognizable names were also honored as Disney Legends. Actors Harrison Ford, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Angela Bassett were crowned as legends, as well as costume designer Colleen Atwood, Disney parks employee Marta Blandin, James L. Brooks, Frank Oz, Kelly Ripa, comic book artist Steve Ditko, animator Mark Henn, engineer Joe Rohde, and John Williams.
«I'm still proud to have been Hannah Montana», - said Miley, holding back tears. «This award is dedicated to Hannah and all her amazing, loyal fans, and to everyone who made my dream a reality». Ending her speech, she quoted one of her Disney Channel colleague’s songs, saying, «Quoting the legend herself, 'That's life.'»
After landing the role of Hannah Montana in 2005, Miley’s sitcom aired from 2006 to 2011. The character became one of the company’s most iconic creations. Even as her fans grew up and Miley’s sound and style changed, the «Wrecking Ball» artist expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play a teenage pop star. Furthermore, she has repeatedly performed the song «The Climb» from the movie «Hannah Montana: The Movie»
