Millions of dozens of egg cartons have been recalled in the United States due to an outbreak of salmonella, one of the most common forms of bacterial food poisoning. The Food and Drug Administration has recalled several egg brands due to the salmonella outbreak. All brown cage-free and organic certified brown eggs in nine states were recalled by the FDA, including California, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, Wyoming, New Mexico, Nebraska, Illinois, and Indiana.
According to NBC Chicago, 1,700,000 dozen eggs were recalled. At the time of publication, at least 79 people have been infected with the bacteria, and 21 people have been hospitalized, according to the FDA.
