The new crowned Miss Kansas went viral after she stood up against her abuser on the beauty pageant stage.
During an interview as part of the competition, which Smith shared on social media, she firmly stated that her goal as Miss Kansas would be to «eliminate unhealthy and violent relationships».

Now, Smith, a nurse in the cardiothoracic intensive care unit, is sharing more of her story.
«My family, every woman in my family, has suffered from domestic violence», - she told KSN. «At the age of 14, I entered my first relationship, but it was also a violent relationship that I was in until 2018, 2019. It’s something I still struggle with and fight against today».
«I utilized the Miss Kansas organization, which is really focused on supporting women», - she added. «And I, being a woman who has needed this support my whole life, witnessing domestic violence, being a victim, a survivor, and now an advocate, as well as a young woman striving for education, I have the opportunity not only to share my story on such a scale, but also to go back to school».
Smith did not name the person she identified as her abuser.
