Mon Castro: a Mexican producer whose films conquer international festivals

Mon Castro is a recognized Mexican producer based in Los Angeles. She holds a degree in film and television from Centro de Diseño, Cine y Televisión, and continued her education by obtaining a master’s degree in production from the American Film Institute. Mon’s work has been featured at various international film festivals, and her experience and successes have been steadily growing for the past six years.
One of her latest works, «BAJO LA TIERRA», will be showcased at the Philadelphia Latin American Arts and Film Festival in June, and has been nominated for the prestigious LOLA award.
Among her other successes, her film «CUANDO VOLVIMOS A LA TIERRA» was a finalist in the McDonald’s Spotlight Dorado competition. Her film «IM FINSTERN» received the ASC Owen Roizman Heritage award. Additionally, «THE PHYSICIST IN OUTER SPACE» was awarded the jury’s special prize and best independent film director at Top Shorts, as well as best comedy at the Hollywood Verge Film Awards. Mon was also recognized in the Filmmakers Connect 30 under 30 list of film directors.
Mon’s passion lies in horror and genre films, and she is particularly drawn to feminist and LGBTQIA+ narratives. As a producer, Mon is dedicated to creating a more friendly and inclusive environment for women in the horror community.
Mon also pays tribute to significant contributions of women filmmakers, such as Debra Hill, who continue to serve as sources of inspiration.
With diverse freelance experience in various departments of the film industry, what Mon enjoys most is being a creative producer. While she is skilled in physical production and has a keen interest in logistics, Mon’s true passion lies in storytelling and close collaboration with creative teams.
