Monica stars as pilot Natasha «Phoenix» Trace in Top Gun: Maverick

Monica played the role of Lieutenant Natasha «Phoenix» Trace, an F/A-18 °F pilot and a candidate for the mission. She is one of the pilots, alongside characters played by Miles Teller, Glen Powell, Jay Ellis, Danny Ramirez, Lewis Pullman, and Greg Tarzan Davis, who are under Maverick’s supervision. Top Gun: Maverick became Monica’s second film.
During an interview on The Late Late Show, Tom praised Monica a lot. «Monica is amazing in this film», - Tom said. «Monica has the natural intelligence and talent to play a female fighter pilot who graduated from Top Gun». He also noted that the «impressive» Monica «never got sick in the plane» during training.
Monica and her co-stars had to learn how to fly the planes they pilot in the film. Tom taught the actors editing and directing themselves in the planes. Monica admitted that Tom «prepared us in the best way» to become pilots.
Monica was a ballerina before becoming an actress. She received a degree in dance from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. Eventually, she retrained as an actress and moved to California.
Monica’s first regular role was in the Lifetime series UnREAL in 2017. She also played leading roles in the series Chicago Justice and The Good Cop. Her film debut was in the 2015 film «America — Still a Place».
Monica was born in San Francisco but grew up in Mill Valley, north of San Francisco. Her father is of Italian descent
