The MTV Video Music Awards ceremony has been rescheduled for one day due to its original date coinciding with the 2024 presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. Originally planned for Tuesday, September 10, the event at the UBS Arena in New York will now take place on Wednesday, September 11, to avoid a conflict with the debate.
The 59-year-old Democratic candidate Kamala Harris had previously addressed her opponent at a campaign rally, saying, «Well, Donald, I hope you reconsidered your decision to meet me on the debate stage, because as they say, 'If you have something to say, say it to my face'».
Shortly before this, the 78-year-old Republican candidate shared at a press conference, «I believe that debates are very important, and we have agreed with Fox on the date of September 4. We have agreed with NBC on September 10, subject to final confirmation. And we have agreed with ABC on September 25».
After some efforts to persuade Trump to participate in the debates, Harris told journalists, according to CNN, «I am glad that he finally agreed to the debates on September 10. I look forward to it and hope he shows up».
Now that the MTV Video Music Awards ceremony is scheduled for September 11, all attention will be on the list of nominees. Leading with 10 nominations is Taylor Swift, especially for her song «Fortnight» featuring Post Malone. Following with six nominations each are Eminem, Sabrina Carpenter, and Ariana Grande.
