Serena Williams' husband, Alexis Ohanian, has been diagnosed with Lyme disease.
On July 16, the 41-year-old tech executive and father of two shared an update on his health on X after blood tests revealed the disease, despite the absence of symptoms.
«I went through a full battery of health scans, tests, etc. and discovered that I have Lyme disease. Wild. No symptoms, thankfully, but I’ll be treating it. Good cholesterol is too low. Bad cholesterol is just fine. Need to work on that. On the plus side: total testosterone 822 ng/dL + free testosterone 162 ng/dL», - said the Reddit co-founder.
In his next post, Ohanian admitted that the diagnosis was «quite unexpected», - considering he doesn’t spend much time in the northeast or in the wilderness, where ticks are most common.
«I have a loved one who went through this a few years ago, showed a ton of symptoms, etc. and just couldn’t figure it out until they were tested for it and found (successfully treated). I spend so little time in the wilderness/northeast that it was quite unexpected».
Lyme disease is a potentially debilitating illness caused by Borrelia burgdorferi bacteria, transmitted through the bite of an infected black-legged tick, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Early symptoms may include fever, headaches, fatigue, muscle aches, and joint pain. If left untreated, symptoms can become more serious and include muscle weakness, numbness, and vision loss.
